Racing Plans for 2017
Even though the year has just begun, I feel like I've already been making plans for a long time; I started planning for the Phoenix Women's Half Marathon, my first race of this year, in July 2016 and everything else began to take shape shortly after.
Thanks to an introduction by my friend Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, I'm linking up with Deb Runs to share the races that I have scheduled, so far, for 2017. Deb is hosting a monthly link up this year so that runners will be able to connect with each other at races all over the country; what a fun idea!
About those races...
January 29 - The Phoenix Women's Half Marathon (Phoenix, AZ): This will only be the second running of this event, but it came highly recommended, and I'll be meeting up with many of my Oiselle teammates (the real reason I chose this one!) for tons of fun. In addition, the race is relatively inexpensive and registration includes a technical long sleeve jacket, free instant race results, tracking, and photos through their website or mobile app, and a pre- and post-race runner's brunch. Nice!
February 2 - River Trail 15K (Little Rock, AR): This is always one of my favorite races of the year; it is part of the Arkansas RRCA Grand Prix Series, the weather is always iffy (one year we started late, as race volunteers blazed a path through ice so that the race didn't have to be cancelled!), and so many local runners come out to participate and cheer. I've not yet registered for this race because it's really going to depend on how I feel after the half marathon the weekend before; no matter what, I'll be there to either run or volunteer.
March 12 - Germantown Half Marathon (Germantown, TN): My friend and Oiselle teammate Cecilia (MommiesRun) loves this race; she and another teammate, Jana, have invited (coerced) me to participate in this race with them this year. I am way overdue for a trip to see them, so I'm already super excited.
April 22 - The Tenacious Ten (Seattle, WA): There are two options for The Tenacious Ten - a 10K and a ten mile race - and I have registered for the ten mile race. Not only is this event sponsored by Oiselle, but it received its name thanks to my friend Krysta (ktan runs) and it provides me another opportunity to visit with special friends who live in the area (and others who will be visiting for the race); this will be my first ever trip to Seattle and I am PUMPED!
May 13 - Rock Run 8K (Little Rock, AR): Another of my favorite races in the Arkansas RRCA Grand Prix series, the Rock Run 8K is, like the River Trail 15K, run solely on the Arkansas River Trail and is a great opportunity to meet up with plenty of local runners and teammates.
June 10 - Yellowstone Half Marathon (West Yellowstone, MT): Let's take a vacation! Of course, it can't be just a vacation; we had to get a race in there, somewhere. There is a possibility that another couple (a fellow Oiselle teammate and her person) may join us; either way, I am looking forward to an adventure in a place that I've always wanted to explore!
June 17 - Go! Mile (Little Rock, AR): I'm not sure how this one will pan out, after a week of vacation and a challenging half marathon the weekend before, but I'm planning to do the Arkansas RRCA Championship Go! Mile again this year; I have to try to continue beating my previous time, right?
August 4 - White River 4 Mile Classic (Batesville, AR): Another of my local favorites; there's usually a huge caravan/carpool operation from Little Rock that goes along with this race, ensuring plenty of pre- and post-race shenanigans. It's hot and hilly but, for some reason, I always look forward to it.
November 11 - Richmond Marathon (Richmond, VA): Yes, that's right, I'll be running my fourth marathon this year and it will be my first one away from home. In case you've never done this before, training for a marathon requires a lot of motivation and dedication and I've decided that I need a change of race scenery to look forward to this time around. To make it even more fun, running Richmond means that I'll get to hang out with many of my Oiselle teammates in the VA/DC area and finishers receive a really nice fleece blanket.
Have you made any race plans for this year? What's on your list?
