It's Monday, What Are You Reading? (3/6/17)
Hosted by The Book Date
Last week seems to have been filled with mystery and intrigue; I find it interesting that my choices seem to form cycles of certain genres or styles. I have to place some of the responsibility in the hands of two of my fellow book lovers, Catherine at The Gilmore Guide to Books and Sarah at Sarah's Book Shelves; they kindled my interest in a couple of these and I'm always thankful for their recommendations!
Work was a little busier last week, with Ash Wednesday thrown in, and I didn't seem to get as much reading done at home, either; nevertheless, I managed to finish a couple of things.
After reading comments from Sarah at Sarah's Book Shelves and a few others, I couldn't resist the hype; I'm such a sucker for these dramatically-marketed novels, y'all! I listened to the audiobook version of Behind Her Eyes all week and finished this one on Saturday morning...sigh. If you can handle the fact that much of this story sounds plausible, and quite entertaining, until the ending which is SO OUT THERE, then go for it. And then please check out Sarah's spoiler discussion here, because you'll need it!
Right now, I'm reading The Fall of Lisa Bellow by Susan Perabo; I'm not exactly sure how to categorize this one: it's a debut of sorts, since this is Perabo's first novel, but her short stories are fabulous. Her collection Why The Run the Way They Do was one of my favorite reads last year (my review here); it's available in paperback now and, if you're a fan of short stories and/or brilliant writing, you should pick up a copy.
I'm halfway through this one and, so far, it's lovely; it sounds like some readers have been misinterpreting the description and getting caught up in the "whodunit" aspect of the crime that takes place early in the novel. This story is definitely not about the crime; instead, I am thoroughly enjoying the effects of trauma on this family, community, etc. I'm excited to continue on the rest of this journey.
I need another good audiobook for a short road trip I'll be taking this weekend, so that will be on the agenda for this week. Hope you all have a great one!
