It's Monday, What Are You Reading? (1/2/17)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Wow, another year begins. I hope you all had a lovely holiday weekend! Today is a work holiday for me, so I'm enjoying a little extra downtime before moving into the new year in earnest; hoping to do a little extra reading, too!

Last week, I finished up The Girl in the Garden by Melanie Wallace; this book publishes on January 31 so I'll post more thoughts on that date but, in the meantime, the phrase that keeps coming to mind is "unexpected delight." I hope can convince some other readers to take a chance on this one!

I've seen Claire Fuller's upcoming release, Swimming Lessons, on lots of lists for 2017 reading; I started it around the middle of last week and, I have to admit, I was feeling a little apprehensive at first.

By the halfway mark, I thought things had turned around a bit and I was looking forward to a quicker pace but, unfortunately, I felt rather let down by the end.

I decided to jump into something I felt confident I would enjoy, especially after a little inside scoop from Catherine at The Gilmore Guide to Books, and I have not been disappointed! Sophie Kinsella has always been a bright spot in my reading life and I don't expect that to change. I'm about halfway through this one and loving it, so far.

For the January selection of the Social Justice Book Club, I'm reading Hope in the Dark by Rebecca Solnit; I'm really looking forward to participating in some discussion about this one. I feel so fired up while reading it!

I've been excited about the release of Idaho by Emily Ruskovich, but I've heard mixed (and mostly not extremely positive) reviews on this one; I think I'll still give it a try, with tempered expectations.

Hope you all have a wonderful week and start to the new year!
